PROFILE & INTERVIEWS
Residing in Japan since 2009, Milla’s initial discovery and continued training in Kinbaku have been synchronous with her study and an absorbed understanding of the Japanese culture, language, and way of thinking. She lends herself ‘seme’ style of kinbaku strongly influenced by traditional Japanese approaches and her background in Japanese martial arts.
Onstage and in private her rope style exhibits a blend of ‘feminine’ and ‘masculine’ elements; possessing power and assertiveness coupled with controlled poise, fluidity, and grace. Each and every rope and movement serves a purpose and intently binds the body within the ‘story’ and interplay of control and surrender which unfolds between her and her partner. While onstage, her creative flair and passion for narrative and visual extravagance is highlighted, for Milla, kinbaku–as a practice–is an erotic act of inquiry and exploration into the other and oneself; it is a journey of acceptance, trust, and awakening of desires.
Milla currently runs her own studio, Senkaku (formerly: Nymphetamine), in Osaka from where she holds weekly rope nights, private lessons, and other intimate fetish and socially orientated events. She also performs periodically at other local establishments and events. While having performed and taught workshops internationally, her preference towards more intimate small-group and on-one-one style of teaching and sharing as kept her primarily based in Japan where she resides in recent years.
